PSCC Tequila Race 2014

What a spectacular sunny sailing weekend! Kathleen was in Kansas on a family and friends trip, so Anne & Dominique made it possible for me to do the trip - Thank you, Thank you! Anne had very little helm experience, so she was the designated driver-ha! She must have driven 80% of the time, much of it with the spinnaker up, so she has a lot more experience now! We got to zig zag around and get pics from in front and behind the fleet. What a blast - Doug, on the big Roberts 34 s/v Whisky Run, came charging out. He hadn't had a chance to race all summer. We stumped him with the start line, start time, and lack of committee boat. By the time he got to West point, Steve, Elsie, and Kam on the winning Annapolis 44, s/v Osprey were powered up, and heading to Bainbridge. We were reaching around, and Anne was enjoying the speed, "look 5.6 kts". We needed to go slower and head for Blake Island. Off Restoration Point I managed to get both Whisky Run and Osprey on the same frame. Doug wanted to go counter-clockwise around the island, told me I was going the wrong way, but I saw Osprey passing us and followed. We sailed with Rob and Karen, on the Cal 39, Sail La Vie, and met Doug at the South end of the island, crawling out of the hole. We had a good spinnaker snarl-up, and by the time we sorted it out, Sail la Vie was well ahead. At Restoration Point, I looked back to see Deb and Kevin's big Skookum 44, s/v Arvonna, all powered up, and storming towards us. We pinched up, and they tacked, twice, for a pic with Mt. Ranier in the background. Back in Blakely Harbor, we had eight boats at the raft-up, great food and fun conversations. Sunday Jim on the Hunter 40, s/v Kia Ora was a wonderful docent, leading us for a fine little walk in the woods. After the fog burned off we motored home - what a fine weekend, despite missing Kathleen. . .
