Labor Day Weekend Trip

with

PSCC at Oro Bay, Anderson Island

September 1-5, 2005

Kathleen & I got off late Thursday afternoon
for a sweet sail South. Ranier was clear and the current with us,
but it was dark by the time we rounded Point Robinson.
We missed the boat anchored off Maury island, never saw the buoy,
and tiptoed into Quartermaster, anchoring off Dockton.

The next morning we motored back into Quartermaster,
while we waited for the tide to change, then down through
the Narrows, dodging the tug. We sailed a little off Fox island,
and then motor sailed up Carr inlet and anchored behind
Raft Island, in suburbia.

Saturday we sailed down to Pitt Pass, motored through
at low slack, but couldn't see any rocks. We looked for friends
in Longbranch, anchored for lunch, and caught starfish.
We raced another boat around the South end of Anderson Island
and joined the PSCC raft-up after the anchor dance. Sean and Sandy
came down with their kids on Tsunami, and shared their dinner.

We hung out with the group most of Sunday. I got to
go up a couple masts, and then Kathleen and I dinghyed for a walk,
ate blueberrys and dodged poison oak. Nice day.

Monday we headed home in the fog, and got through
the Narrows before the rest of the fleet passed us.
Tom & Jan on Moonstar put up their sails so the race was on.

They tacked, we tacked, they flinched, tacked early,
and we got ahead. After a few tacks, we had a bad over-wrap
on the winch and even did a 360. They got ahead, again, but
Kathleen did a great job driving the boat. We passed Moonstar,
and held on to our lead to the North end of Colvos Passage.
Great little race! We picked up a buoy, off the NE side of
Blake Island, relaxed, read & fed starfish, again.
We sure caught more starfish than crabs this season!
We had a fine sail home, returning just after dark. Good trip...
